Common questions.
How do I join the beta?
Apply with your work email. We onboard counsel in waves; your licence key arrives by email and is always available on the key page. The download buttons for macOS and Windows appear once your address is recognised.
How much will it cost?
Nothing during the beta. The beta ends on 31 December 2026; paid plans start in January 2027. Afterwards: Solo €24 per month, Firm €20 per lawyer and month (billed yearly, excl. VAT; less from 10 lawyers, down to €12 from 50), and for sharing matters the LitArbi Server at €20 per server plus €8 per user and month. Beta participants keep founder pricing. All plans and the calculator.
Which platforms are supported?
macOS 14 or later on Apple Silicon and Intel, notarized by Apple, and Windows 10 (1809 or later) or 11 on x64 and ARM64 PCs. Both are in beta with the same features and version numbers, and share one licence and one matter format.
Does it work with Microsoft Word?
Yes. LitArbi cites from a pane beside your document; citations are live, clickable fields that renumber with the brief. So that every version of Word is covered, it comes in two versions: LitArbi for Word, the add-in for current Word — Microsoft 365 or Office 2024 on Windows, Word for Mac 16.70 or later, Word on the web (in the browser, with your firm’s LitArbi Server or a bundle’s exhibit list) and Word for iPad — and the Word ribbon add-in that LitArbi installs itself, for every Word from Word 2019 and Word for Mac 16 on. Both give Word the same LitArbi tab and write the same citations (more). LibreOffice Writer has its own add-in, LitArbi for LibreOffice, on the Mac and on Windows — the same citations, numbering and List of Exhibits (more).
What happens to a brief opened where LitArbi isn’t installed?
Nothing breaks: it is an ordinary Word document. Citations are normal text in the footnotes or the body; LitArbi’s markers are invisible bookmarks, and the links to the exhibits only open where LitArbi has the matter. Colleagues can edit freely. When the brief comes back, LitArbi reads the citations again — and if a firm template or SharePoint stripped the bookmarks, Restore Citation Links recognises them word for word.
Does the numbering survive co-counsel’s Track Changes?
Yes — we tested it in Word with tracked deletions, insertions and moves. The numbering lives in LitArbi, not in Word. A citation in a tracked deletion still counts until the change is accepted; accepted, Update Exhibits from Brief renumbers as if it had been deleted; rejected, nothing changes. A citation moved elsewhere loses Word’s hidden bookmark — Word never copies it — but LitArbi recognises it by its link and number and renumbers it in its new place. For the cleanest result, accept or reject pending changes before you update.
Where is my data stored?
On your computer, in a matter folder you can put on an encrypted external drive. Matters you share with your team go to your firm’s own LitArbi Server — never to us. Only an anonymous licence check talks to our server.
Can my team work on the same matter?
Yes. Your firm runs its own LitArbi Server — PHP and MySQL on the firm’s web hosting; we install it for you. Share a matter and your colleagues work on the same exhibits, numbers, notes and citations: every computer keeps a full copy and works offline, changes travel every few seconds, and two people numbering at once never get the same number. It works with LitArbi on Mac and Windows and in any browser (LitArbi Web). The matter’s owners decide who may open it, and every sign-in, access change and file view is logged. More about the server.
Is the LitArbi Server included in the licence?
No — it is an add-on for sharing matters, priced per server and per user: €20 per server plus €8 per user and month, billed yearly — from a single user, €6 per user from 50 users, installation by us included. Guests — co-counsel, experts, the client — are free. LitArbi on its own is complete without it. Pricing.
Do the AI features send my documents to the cloud?
Only when you click them, and only to the provider you chose with your own API key — or to a local Ollama model, which never leaves your machine. The Translation & AI Protocol records which document went where, when, with what result.
How are awards and decisions cited?
In the Jus Mundi reference style: Tecmed v. Mexico, ICSID Case No. ARB(AF)/00/2, Award, 29 May 2003, ¶ 122 — case name in italics, first citation full, later ones short with the case name kept. Every template is editable in Settings.
Can the other side read my bundle?
Any PDF reader can. If they use LitArbi too, they import the whole bundle in one click from its machine-readable index — exhibit numbers, titles, dates, parties and types intact. Your notes, tags and summaries are never part of it.
Windows says “Windows protected your PC” when I start the installer.
The beta is not yet code-signed. Click More info, then Run anyway. Signed installers follow with the general release.
Do I need the x64 or the ARM64 version for Windows?
Neither choice is needed: there is one download, and the installer picks the right version for your PC. Help › About LitArbi in the app shows which one runs.
LitArbi on Windows asks for the .NET Desktop Runtime.
LitArbi needs Microsoft's free .NET 8 Desktop Runtime. Follow the link in the message, or download it from dotnet.microsoft.com (“.NET Desktop Runtime”, x64 or ARM64 to match your PC). On ARM64 PCs the LitArbi installer can install it for you.
Can I use one licence on Mac and Windows — and move matters between them?
Yes. The same key works on both. File › Export › Share Matter… on one computer and File › Import › Shared Matter… on the other moves a matter across — exhibit numbers and citations stay identical.
Is there an iPad or Android version?
Yes. The Android beta is available on request; the iPad app follows after the beta. Both are LitArbi for iPad & Android, an add-on to the licence for €7 per lawyer and month (billed yearly), two tablets each. The tablet holds every exhibit of a matter offline — from a bundle or from your firm’s LitArbi Server —, opens “C-41, p. 3” in one go and puts the cited page on the tribunal’s screen. You prepare the matter on the Mac or PC; the tablet is for the hearing room. More.
Does it work with Google Docs?
Yes — with LitArbi for Google Docs, an add-on from the Google Workspace Marketplace. It brings LitArbi’s Insert Citation pane to Google Docs in the browser: exhibits from your firm’s LitArbi Server or a bundle’s exhibit list, citations in the text or as real Google Docs footnotes, in full the first time and short after, each linked to its exhibit — and the List of Exhibits. Your documents stay in your Google account; nothing passes through LitArbi (more).
